Jewellery Care Guide

Every Bespoke & Beryl piece is thoughtfully hand-finished to be treasured for generations. With the correct care and regular maintenance, your jewellery will retain its beauty, brilliance and sentimental value for years to come.

Below you will find our recommendations for caring for your jewellery at home, along with guidance for different gemstones and precious metals.

01

Daily Care

Although precious metals and gemstones are durable, everyday activities can gradually cause scratches, loosen settings and accelerate normal wear.

To help protect your jewellery, we recommend removing your pieces before:

  • Sleeping
  • Swimming or using hot tubs
  • Exercising, weightlifting or carrying out heavy physical activity
  • Applying perfumes, lotions, hairsprays or cosmetics
  • Handling household cleaning products or harsh chemicals
  • Gardening or carrying out household cleaning
  • Cooking with doughs or sticky ingredients

Taking a few moments to remove your jewellery during these activities will help preserve its finish and reduce unnecessary wear.

02

Cleaning Your Jewellery at Home

Keeping your jewellery clean is one of the easiest ways to maintain its sparkle.

To clean suitable pieces at home:

  • Fill a small bowl with warm water.
  • Add a few drops of mild dish soap.
  • Soak your jewellery for 5–10 minutes.
  • Gently clean it using a very soft toothbrush or lint-free cloth.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Pat dry using a soft, lint-free cloth.

Avoid using:

  • Toothpaste
  • Baking soda
  • Bleach
  • Abrasive cloths or brushes
  • Ultrasonic cleaners on opals, emeralds, pearls, heirloom jewellery or any piece with a delicate or previously damaged setting

When in doubt, please contact us before cleaning a piece at home.

03

Diamond and Moissanite Care

Diamonds and moissanites are exceptionally durable, but they still require regular care to maintain their brilliance.

We recommend:

  • Cleaning your jewellery every 2–4 weeks
  • Checking claws and settings regularly for movement
  • Removing rings before heavy lifting or high-impact activities
  • Having your jewellery professionally inspected every 12 months
04

Colored Gemstone Care

Every gemstone has unique characteristics and should be treated accordingly.

Extra care should be taken with gemstones such as:

  • Opals
  • Emeralds
  • Pearls
  • Turquoise
  • Tanzanite
  • Morganite

These stones should be protected from:

  • Extreme temperature changes
  • Harsh chemicals
  • Ultrasonic cleaners
  • Heavy impact or pressure
  • Prolonged direct sunlight, where applicable

If you are unsure how to care for a particular gemstone, please contact us for guidance.

05

Precious Metal Care

Yellow Gold

Yellow gold naturally develops a soft patina over time. This is completely normal and can add character to the piece. A professional polish can restore a brighter finish whenever desired.

White Gold

White gold is rhodium plated to achieve its bright white appearance. With regular wear, the plating will gradually fade and may need to be reapplied approximately every 12–24 months, depending on how often the piece is worn.

Rose Gold

Rose gold develops a rich, warm tone over time and generally requires minimal maintenance beyond regular gentle cleaning.

06

Platinum Care

Platinum is extremely durable but naturally develops a soft satin patina with everyday wear.

This is completely normal. The piece can be professionally polished should you prefer a brighter finish.

07

Storing Your Jewellery

To help prevent scratches, tangling and unnecessary wear, we recommend:

  • Storing pieces separately whenever possible
  • Keeping jewellery in its original Bespoke & Beryl presentation box
  • Avoiding humid environments such as bathrooms
  • Fastening necklaces before storing them
  • Keeping delicate gemstones away from harder stones such as diamonds
08

Engagement and Wedding Rings

Engagement and wedding rings are worn regularly and naturally experience more wear than many other jewellery pieces.

We recommend removing your rings before:

  • Going to the gym
  • Weightlifting
  • Gardening
  • Swimming
  • Applying skincare products
  • Cooking with doughs or sticky ingredients
  • Carrying out heavy household tasks

Even the most secure settings can be affected by repeated impact over time.

09

Professional Maintenance

We recommend having your jewellery professionally inspected every 12 months.

A professional inspection can help ensure that:

  • Claws remain secure
  • Stones are correctly set
  • Settings have not experienced excessive wear
  • The piece receives a thorough professional clean and polish where appropriate

Our available care services may include:

  • Professional cleaning
  • Polishing
  • Rhodium plating
  • Claw retipping
  • Resizing
  • Repairs

  • Have sentimental and heirloom pieces inspected regularly.
  • Do not attempt to repair damaged jewellery at home.
  • When in doubt, contact us before cleaning or wearing a piece that may be damaged.
